And a New Climb (sort of)
Didn’t really feel motivated to get on the bike today, but I thought it’d be a shame to waste a fairly nice day, knowing what type of weather awaits me when I get back to Sweden.
To motivate me a bit I decided to try this climb I’ve been wanting to try for some time now. I remember having attempted to get up this road ages ago but I had to abandon very early in to the climb, well before the view opens up, because it was to steep. I guess that has influenced me a bit about not trying it ever since.
The plan wasn’t to do the entire climb, but rather to get up to about 500m, take some pics and then head back down. Two reasons: 1. It’d be to cold going further up the mountain and 2. I want to save this climb for next time I’m down here.
Mostly it was about 1 though. At 300-400m already I could feel the air changing and getting colder – but I pushed through, for the pics 😁
And it was absolutely worth it. Crazy, crazy view of the entire bay.
Having done half the climb today, yes , it’s steep at parts, but not that steep. I guess younger Kris wasn’t the monster he is today in the mountains.
As you can see, extremely narrow road, and then just a drop down the mountain side, no railing, just some stone barriers here and there. I was not entirely unaffected by the sight of the drop down the side, it’s scary, for sure. I can’t imagine driving a car up this road.
There was absolutely no way I was stopping for pictures on the way up. Trying to clip in on a 10% gradient with that little road to play with? Yeah, no chance. I saved the pics for the very, very slow and careful descent 😁
And so, as the sun set at the end of my ride, so does my time in Croatia come to … yada yada yada
Honestly though, it doesn’t look to bad in Sweden next week. But man, I’ll be happy if I get to see the sun 5 times before this year is over (slight exaggeration perhaps, or at least I hope it is).
