Short Ride Along the Coast
Just a 45 min ride. One of my favorite stretches in the entire region. The views are fantastic, and it starts right as I roll out the door.
Summary First 3 weeks in Croatia
Week 1 (Jan 20-26):
- 12.5 hours
- 2 rides in shorts, 1 in a t-shirt (which is crazy)
Week 2 (Jan 27 – Feb 2):
- 15 hours
- 2 or 3 rides in shorts
Week 3 (Feb 3 – Feb 9):
- 15 hours
- 1 ride in shorts (should’ve been 1 more, a t-shirt ride, perfect weather that day but I had to spend it in Rijeka, taking my grandmother to the hospital)
Overall:
Couldn’t be happier about the weather conditions so far. There weren’t many days where I couldn’t ride at all. Volume is ok. Could be more but my fitness more so than the weather was the limiting factor (and some obligations).
A bit more Freedom Now
Parents have arrived to Croatia, which should give me a bit more freedom and time, as I don’t have to take care of grandmother in the same way as the first 3 weeks. Also gives me a bit more security knowing a car is on “stand by”.
Istria, Cres, Krk and some longer rides south along the coast are on the menu (weather permitting of course).

I’ve also been toying with the idea of doing this ride, as I’ve never been to Rab island before. A proper island-hopping ride, without the car – to be honest, it doesn’t sound that great to me, but maybe it could be fun.

The cherry tree started blooming a few days ago. Probably a bit early. A couple of days of strong winds and it’ll blow the blossoms away, which would also most likely result in no cherries in the summer.
