Came home to Sweden Saturday evening and did a ride in the rain on Sunday – I thought I might as well get used to riding in the cold asap. Weather started out fine, but during the final 45 min or so it was pouring down. End of the ride it felt like my feet where swimming in my boots.
I had planned on resting, or going to the gym, today after my first day back at work, but since we had such nice weather I went out for a short ride as soon as I got home.
Honestly, I much prefer biking in Sweden during fall and winter, over spring/summer. Both today and yesterday, there wasn’t a single breeze. And that’s usually how the winters are here nowadays. Sure, it’s cold, dark and sometimes (often) wet/snowy, but it’s not that bad with the right clothes.
Riding on the trainer is a very hard pass. Can’t do it anymore.
In spring and summer, on the other hand, it seems like there’s always some annoying gusty wind throughout the day. I don’t mind wind itself, as long as it’s sort of consistent in one direction. But here, the gusts are all over the place, sideways, up, down, front, back… When riding in larger groups it’s fine, but doing a longer solo ride in those conditions is absolutely maddening.
It’s gotten to the point where, on longer days, I’ll just take the CX and ride through the forest on gravel instead of taking the main bike out on the country roads, even when the weather’s otherwise good, just to get shelter from the wind.
More often than not, March and early to mid April here really, really, really are the pits though. Spring never seems to arrive, and it’s not unusual for snow to fall in late April.
This is more or less the only thing that I miss from Sweden when I’m in Croatia – Swedish candy and Cheez doodles. That and my friends of course – just kidding. I very obviously don’t have any friends 😄
Anyways, I probably won’t be blogging as much now that I’m back home in Sweden – don’t see much point to it, it’s Croatia that I want to sell you on. I guess I will need to do a couple of blog posts a month, at least, so Google doesn’t forget that the site exists.
